Blackheads
Blackheads, or open comedones, are hair follicles that are clogged with oil and bacteria. The blockage occurs near the skin’s surface. They commonly occur on oily areas of the face, such as the chin, forehead, and nose.
They are not caused by dirt. Blackheads are dark in color because they are on the skin’s surface and exposed to air. Air oxidizes the bacteria, which darkens its color. Scrubbing your face with a harsh soap won’t prevent acne. It may irritate your skin and cause more acne.
People often restrict their diet due to the misconception that acne is caused by chocolate or greasy foods. Diet actually has little affect on acne. Most acne is caused by fluctuations in hormones, which is why teenagers are prone to it. People can also have a genetic predisposition to acne. If left untreated, the blackheads can continue to buildup and stretch the pores permanently.
Washing your face twice daily with a mild cleanser helps prevent acne. There are over-the-counter medications to treat acne, but they may irritate the skin. One homeopathic treatment for blackheads is to apply a paste made from ground radish seeds and water. Then, wash your face with a mild cleanser.
